Yes, it is possible to design the float valves of the SV series in such a way that the float lies horizontally, even if the connection in the tank comes from above.
With regard to maintenance, we do not specify any specific intervals. The valve has functional parts that must remain smooth. Make sure that the parts touched by the medium do not freeze and are not blocked by debris or dirt.
It is recommended to check the correct function of the valve after each new commissioning.

The float valve type SW01 is not pressure-tight, which means that it is perfectly normal that the medium also escapes on the side (for example, on the attachment of the rod).

Pressure tight means that the medium is only discharged through the valve outlet when the valve is open. This makes sense especially at high supply line pressures.
Non-pressure-tight valves have a media outlet, among other things, on the housing.
